Junior President’s Update

66648107_2312564878985879_5779327844836442112_o.jpg

The Home & Away season has come to an end with Junior Finals starting this weekend.  We have U12Girls, U12, U13, U16Girls and U17’s heading into Round 1 of Finals.  The girls have a bye this week, but the boys are in full swing.  It is wonderful and exciting for these teams to have this opportunity.  Please get down and support them if you can.  All finals details are available on the EFL website.

As always it’s still a busy time of the season.  We see Boronia Auskick have it’s last session this coming Friday night.  This will be a fun night of games and presentations to all the children.  It’s also an opportunity for Auskickers moving up to next Under 8’s to get registered and ready for footy next season.

We have our Under 17 Presentation Evening on Saturday 31 August at the Knox Club.  This is quite a formal evening where the Under 17’s dress up in their finest as we announce the winner of the 2019 Ray Lacey Medal for Best & Fairest.   It is done this way, as the majority of these players have played their last year of Junior football, so it’s nice to make it special for them.   Our Junior Presentation Day for all other Junior Teams will be held on Sunday 8 September.  Details will be distributed shortly.

Miller Park is looking a treat and we look forward to heading back there for our 2020 Junior Season.  The surface will be an outstanding improvement of what is has been in the past and even Chandler Park became quite boggy by the end of the season.

The Junior Committee has been working hard on strategies to continue to increase numbers for the coming 2020 season.  They have also been busy working on building our Boronia Auskick program going forward.  Being part of our great Junior Committee is an extremely rewarding process.  Knowing that you can have a small impact on improving the club that your children play for is very satisfying.  I would encourage any parent who would like to get involved to please email us on boroniajnr@elf.org.au.

We are also seeking Junior Coaches for 2020.  All positions are open.  If you would like to have an opportunity to coach one of our Junior Teams, please ensure that you put your application in.  ALL 2019 coaches and potential coaches for 2020 need to apply for positions, it’s not just a given that this year’s coach will continue into next year.  No experience necessary as we will provide you with support and training course necessary to do a great job.

We are loving our new Training/Warm up tops!  Another order will be placed prior to the end of August and order forms will be sent out in the next week.  Orders will close quickly so ensure you put your order in as soon as the forms are release.  We also have great new Sports Bags available across the club.  These can be purchased the Club at on Thursday nights.

Boronia Hawks Support EFL Silent Sunday.

Over the next two rounds, the Eastern Football League and Eastern Region Girls junior competitions will be launching a new initiative, ‘EFL Silent Sunday’. Some key objectives are:

  • Give players an opportunity to trust their skills and instincts without sideline input and/or correction.
  • Remind coaches, parents & players that PRACTICE is the time to learn and receive instruction. GAMES are to showcase their learning.
  • Remind everyone that junior football is solely for the kids and their enjoyment.
  • To support the umpires who are officiating the game and developing their skills

DO’s

  • Clap and cheer after each score only (for both sides).
  • Encourage players and umpires.
  • Enjoy the game

DON’T’s

  • Verbally abuse umpires.
  • Verbally attempt to correct or instruct umpire’s decision.
  • Verbally abuse players.
  • Verbally attempt to correct or instruct players.
  • Verbally abuse any opposition players, officials or supporters

Clubs also have the opportunity to opt-in with the two below extras; these however are not compulsory.

Quarter-time breaks
Clubs can opt to have no spectators on the ground during the quarter-time and three-quarter time breaks. This will help ensure the coaching/instructing messaging is coming from the coaching staff (please communicate with the opposition club’s team managers and announce on PA should your club wish to include this option).
PA announcements
Prior to the commencement of the game, those clubs with a working PA system can choose to deliver a message before each game (this has been communicated to clubs). Clubs may also utilise the PA at half time of games to remind spectators of the guidelines.

Auskick Volunteer of the Year Nomination for Sam Dunkinson!

Boronia Hawks are very pleased let all our supporters know that Samantha Dunkinson has been nominated for the AFL’s AUSKICK VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR AWARD. #auskickvoty #boroniahawks

65394918_10156508512847634_1276263091218153472_n

Sam is our Junior Vice-President and took on the role of Boronia Auskick Co-ordinator at the start of this year.   Boronia Auskick has gone from strength to strength under her guidance, with 105 registered players getting out for a kick on Friday nights at Tormore Reserve.

31081513_1675723415840457_6773574041845366784_o

Sam has got it all running smoothly, reflecting her training as a teacher.  Parents are getting involved in running the groups and we have senior players from both our men’s and women’s teams actively involved in helping the kids to develop their skills.

62428844_10156508697687634_6189752411381301248_n

Sam has brought an enormous passion and commitment to Boronia Auskick, resulting in some great initiatives.  She has brought sponsors Boronia McDonalds and Lipari Pizza on board to assist with funding of new equipment including footballs and water bottles.  Sam has also introduced a Sensory Space to assist the kids who might get a little overwhelmed by everything and just need a quiet spot for a while.

65004718_10156489709827634_7657232553333489664_n

Sam’s contribution to the Boronia Auskick has seen a real boost to our junior numbers with many Auskickers also choosing to play junior footy with Boronia Hawks.  Our two new Under 8’s teams are a direct result of the boost to our Auskick program over the past two years.

61423840_10156424483177634_7925324463489417216_n

Well done Sam!  We congratulate you on your well deserved nomination and wish you well when the awards are announced.  You are already a winner in our eyes!

New Lights for Tormore Reserve

A massive thank you to Alan Tudge MP, our Federal Member for Aston, who has assisted the Boronia Hawks Football Netball Club in receiving a Federal Grant for the installation of new lights for the ground at Tormore Reserve.

Alan Tudge_Lights Announcement

This will be a huge boost for the Club in allowing more flexibility in the scheduling of matches at twilight and early evening. It will also bring our training conditions up to date, with the existing lights being below the required standard.

A huge thank you also to Kerryn Westcott who prepared an outstanding submission for the grant.

As our Club Vision Statement says: “The Boronia Hawks Football Netball Club is One Club working together for success on and off the field”.
