$1.2M for the new Clubrooms

From our great supporter, Jackson Taylor MP: “$1.2 million to help deliver a new pavilion at Tormore Reserve in Boronia is now fully funded. In other words – you beauty!”

It was a four year journey for me since elected in 2018 to get to the commitment of $1.2 million to deliver new facilities for Boronia Hawks Football Netball Club and Boronia Cricket Club, but it’s been an even longer journey for them.

So this is an exciting moment. With funding now in the budget that means we can move a step closer to delivering the facilities these legends and the broader community deserve.

$1 million will go towards delivering the new pavilion and $200,000 will go to helping the clubs fit-out the rooms – which means a lot of the stress that usually comes with a new home.

It’s no secret. I’m a massive supporter of grassroots sports and unashamedly so. I believe in it’s power to change lives.

And with these new facilities – it’ll make that job even easier and encourage more people to get involved, particularly girls and women who maybe couldn’t have due to the dated facilities not being fit for purpose.

This will change all that. Now, let’s get on with it!

PLAY 4 BCNA

Today, Saturday 20 May, our players, coaches and supporters don pink to raise funds and awareness for Breast Cancer Network Australia.

It’s safe to say that most of us have known someone affected by breast cancer directly or indirectly. We wear pink with pride and our thoughts are with all those impacted by this illness.

We chose to wear pink a week later than most so we could come together with most of our teams playing at home. We’ll also have some teams wearing pink again next week for an extra show of support when our Vets & Masters play.

What a Way to Finish the Year!

A great crowd for our last training session for 2022! Thank you very much to everyone who turned out tonight and donated to support Knox Infolink Inc in their ‘Share the Joy’ Knox Christmas Appeal. GO HAWKA!!!

Senior captains Harry Burgess and Bree Watson with the generous donations from our club community.
A few of our coaches plus one Head Trainer! Andrew, Craig, Erin, Candyce, Kate, Scott, Matt, Steve and Lachie.

A Xmas Message from Flash!

To all players and supporters of the BHFNC, on behalf of the senior committee, I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Our club is well-placed to attack the 2023 season with confidence. Thanks to our coaching staff, coterie group, and the work of our many volunteers over the finals campaign, our energies are clearly focused on making 2023 a season our club won’t forget in a hurry.

As the year progresses, we expect to be able to update you all on a regular basis on the progress of our new pavilion. This pavilion will be the benchmark for clubs in the Eastern Suburbs. Such an exciting time to be associated with our club!

So rest up, stay fit if you are a player, stay safe and I look forward to welcoming you all back to pre-season training in the new year.

For those attending Wednesday night’s final all-club training session, please remember to bring some food and a new toy for a donation to our local community in need. Please click here for more information.

Jake Lock

The Boronia Hawks community has been shocked and saddened to learn of the recent passing of Jakeb Lock. Jake was a great supporter our women’s football program as the partner of Jess Buzinskas.

Go Fund Me page: In loving memory of Jakeb Lock.

Jake Lock

Jake has looked after the players’ children as part of our Little Hawka’s childcare for several years and over that time became a much loved part of the team. How lucky we were to find someone who loved our kids as much as the mums did and who gave the mums an opportunity to train and play footy because their kids were so well taken care of.

The Club’s players and supporters all express our deep sorrow and sympathy to Jess and her family and to Jake’s many family and friends. We also ask you to please consider a contribution to the Go Fund Me page, established by Candyce Wright and Erin Stanios, to assist Jess.

Miah’s Indigenous Designs

Miah from our Under 16 Girls team has discovered a passion for painting footy boots with traditional indigenous art.

Miah has been busy painting the boots of her team mates with meaningful symbols that relate to community, gathering and running on the field. She is currently perfecting her craft to ensure the longevity of her designs.

The Under 16 Girls had a bye today but celebrated NAIDOC Week last Sunday. Miah and her sister Zoe, who also plays in the Under 16’s team, wrote their thoughts on what NAIDOC Week means to them as young indigenous people.

“NAIDOC Week makes me feel inspired. It makes me feel more connected to my community and my people that I have in my life and grateful for everything I have.” – Zoe

“NAIDOC week means to me being able to connect to my community across Australia. Remember and recognise and commemorate all the achievements and history our first nations people have endured and created.” – Miah

We love your designs Miah and can’t wait to see more of what you create!

Recognition for Karen Little and Candyce Wright

Boronia Hawks could not be prouder to announce that Karen Little has been recognised as the winner of the 2020/2021 Local Champion for Gender Equality Awards. Karen was presented with her award by Mayor of Knox, Susan Laukens and Deputy Mayor, Nicole Seymour, at a ceremony at Boronia Church of Christ.

In further recognition of the Club’s commitment to our women’s players and supporters and the promotion of Gender Equality, Candyce Wright was also one of the three finalists for the award.

Please click here for more information on our Gender Equity Plan.

Every year PLEDGE presents the Knox Local Champions for Gender Equality Awards.  These awards are given to individuals who have made a significant contribution towards achieving greater gender equality in the City of Knox, whether through a business, organisation, or individually.

The Club would like to extend our gratitude to PLEDGE for its work in the local community to recognise the leadership of great advocates for women such as Karen and Candyce.
